The Nuts and Bolts

The Ice Factor is a £3.5million facility which offers daily coaching and instruction on rock and ice climbing, indoors and out, year round.

The scheme runs from Octoberl each year. Exceptional candidates can look forward to a 2 year placement with the prospect of full time, permanent instructional work at the centre at the end of their traineeship.

The Ice Factor has 4 principal elements and our trainees are expected to assist in each: Shop (we have two mountaineering shops – one at the centre and the sister shop 3G (Glencoe Guides & Gear) Mountain Sports at Tigh Phuirt Glencoe, Cafeteria, Bar-Bistro and the Climbing Centre.

The bulk of the work will be in the centre. You will assist staff on instructed sessions, and during days off accompany other members of staff progressing through the MIA and MIC schemes, as you accumulate log book days necessary for your SPA and MLS tickets.

We have a world class facility and a superb team of motivated and customer centric staff. To join the team you need not be the best climber (although some climbing experience is required), nor a rabid hill walker (but again you must demonstrate some hill walking experience), BUT you must be enthusiastic, reliable, able to demonstrate team skills and a willingness to learn.
